Archery The ability of shooting an Arrow employing a Bow was in the bygone ages an army weapon and also a hunting strategy before the discovery of gunpowder. It is typically confined now as a competitive sport used for target shooting. A bow is a weapon that shoots arrows using the flexibility of the bow. The bow is made from a strip of flexible material with a twine linking the 2 ends of the strip to provide strain from which is propelled the arrow which is a straight shaft with a sharpened point on one end or have flints and customarily with feathers attached to the other end. The present day 'Target Archery' involves shooting arrows at a target from a pre-set distance.

Archery competitions might be held inside or out of doors. Indoor distances are eighteen m and twenty-five m. Out of doors distances range between thirty m to 90m depending on the seniority and seventy m is being employed in the Olympic Games. Competition is split into ends where an archer shoots either three or six arrows per end, depending on the kind of round.

There are 20 ends of three arrows in a round for indoor competition, but out of doors rounds generally involve more arrows per round. Targets are colored like the following : Outermost one ring & 2 ring - white three ring & four ring - black five ring & six ring - blue 7 ring & 8 ring - red Innermost nine rings & ten ring - gold there's an innermost ring, often called the 10X ring or the Bull's-eye. The score for each arrow depends on where it hits on the target. The top score, a 10, is awarded by shooting an arrow into the 2 inner most circles.

The bull's-eye ring is sometimes as a tiebreaker with many X's winning. Missing the rings on the target results in a 0 score and in the event of Line breaker where an arrow just touches a boundary will be awarded the higher score. Scores are totaled at the end of each round or volley of arrows by summing the scores for their arrows which are recorded on a score sheet. Archers have a set cutoff point in which to shoot their arrows. For indoor competition is two mins for three arrows.
